Pakistan China Sign Gwadar Agreements: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday met Chinese Premier Li Qiang and discussed bilateral relations as well as issues of mutual and regional interests. During this, both the sides signed several agreements and inaugurated the Gwadar Airport financed by Beijing through online medium.
During the delegation-level meeting, the two leaders expressed satisfaction over the Pakistan-China strategic cooperative partnership based on mutual trust and shared principles, state-run Radio Pakistan reported. The news said that the two leaders exchanged views on the entire dimension of bilateral relations and issues of mutual, regional and international importance.
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor
The two leaders reiterated support to each other on all major issues and expressed their commitment to the development of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase Two. Both leaders expressed satisfaction that cooperation under the US $ 60 billion CPEC has entered a new phase.
Prime Minister Sharif assured Li that Pakistan is determined to ensure the safety of Chinese residents and projects in the country. Both sides agreed to continue high-level contacts, including strengthening all areas of bilateral cooperation.
Gwadar International Airport inaugurated
In the meeting, relocation of sugar industry to Pakistan was discussed and the strategy to increase sugar investment in Pakistan was also discussed. The two leaders jointly unveiled the plaque of the new Gwadar International Airport during a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s residence. Earlier, Prime Minister Li arrived here on a four-day visit, during which he will also attend the SCO summit.
